Course: Decibel measurements

In the 2 hour workshop all details and developments around decibel measurements at FOH are described, tested and done in practice.

The workshop starts with some theory about dB and LEQ calculations. With some short movies, scary moments at FOH with loud yelling audience are described and the LEQ recalculated.

Various parts and details of a measurement system are described and demonstrated in practice.

(microphone, windscreen, cable, measurement point).

After the coffee break there’s the hands on session with LEQ limit mixing, comparison measurements at the floor and keeping the green lights at the screen.

At the end an overview is given of recent legislation in Western Europe (Brussels, Netherlands) with attention for children level limits.

Goals for participants:
understanding of the measurement chain, know where to measure (position), controlling of the LEQ, the use of calibration.
